Job Summary
The Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for maintaining peace and order within the community by patrolling designated areas, enforcing laws, and safeguarding individuals and property. This role involves conducting investigations at crime scenes, apprehending suspects, serving legal documents, and ensuring courtroom security. The officer will also oversee the welfare of individuals in custody, ensuring their safety during transport and while in detention.
Key Responsibilities
The following tasks represent the essential functions of the position:
- Monitor and secure all access points within the facility, utilizing surveillance equipment to oversee inmate activities and visitor interactions.
- Supervise inmate movements and ensure compliance with facility regulations, providing first aid and emergency response as needed.
- Conduct regular headcounts and searches to prevent contraband introduction and ensure inmate accountability.
- Respond to incidents and emergencies, utilizing appropriate force and self-defense techniques to maintain order.
- Engage with inmates to address inquiries regarding facility rules and procedures, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of inmate interactions, behaviors, and incidents, adhering to departmental policies.
- Conduct patrols in the community to deter criminal activity, respond to calls for service, and enforce traffic laws.
- Assist in the investigation of crimes, securing evidence and maintaining the integrity of crime scenes.
- Participate in special assignments, including search and rescue operations and collaboration with other emergency response teams.
Regular attendance and adherence to departmental policies are essential for this role.
Qualifications
Education:
High School diploma or GED; or a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for the position.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State Driver's License and Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certificate are required.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, law enforcement techniques, and safety practices is essential. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effective reporting and interaction with the public.
Physical Requirements:
The role demands physical stamina and the ability to respond to emergencies, including the capacity to pursue and restrain individuals when necessary.
