Key Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes direct patient care, patient and family education, and managing transitions of care.
The RN promotes professional nursing practices across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to address the needs of patients and their families.
Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.
Professional Standards
The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for RN practice. The RN demonstrates leadership through roles such as preceptor, informal and formal leadership positions, and quality improvement initiatives. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. Excellent communication skills, mentorship abilities, and participation in committees or projects are essential.
A subset of employees may need to drive their personal vehicle as part of their job responsibilities.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.Qualifications
Must be a graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
Preferred: One year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential. Experience in a collaborative team environment is required. Proficiency in computer skills is necessary, with prior experience in electronic medical record systems preferred. Flexibility to work various hours, including days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts is expected. The ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the workplace is crucial. Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and strong critical thinking skills are vital.Licensure and Certification
Current RN license as per state regulations. Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency from an accredited program such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Positions not located on campus may not require current BLS competency as determined by the work area.
Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training may be required based on the work area.Compensation and Benefits
