Job Summary:
SUNY Broome's Financial Aid Office is seeking a part-time, temporary Staff Assistant to provide key support to the Financial Aid team. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills, with attention to detail and the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify student and parent information on the FAFSA in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Calculate and award federal and state grants, as well as process student and parent federal loans based on individual student eligibility.
- Ensure accurate data by developing familiarity with tax forms, verification worksheets, and other required documents, and reconciling discrepancies by communicating with students, parents, and spouses to clarify data.
- Assist in reviewing and updating federal, state, and local compliance rules and regulations.
- Represent Student Financial Services at student open houses, orientations, workshops, high school nights, and seminars.
- Assist in navigating various federal, state, and local applications for student aid.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Additional training and education in the applicable administrative field is desirable.
- One (1) year of experience working in an educational institution or in a related administrative function is desired.
- Human services experience, financial experience, or additional experience with any of the functional responsibilities of the position is preferred.
Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $24.38.
Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment standard background check.
