Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. As a key member of our team, you will lead process development of overall CMC manufacturing, with occasional support of preforming ceramic fibers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis from the process to support robust process development and understanding as part of the digital thread for CMCs.
  • Establish methods for data collection, data analysis, and data visualization to enable statistical process control (SPC).
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production and to eliminate quality turn backs, escapes, and reduce overall product costs.
  • Play an active role in the Integrated Product Team process for CMC turbine components.
  • Create and implement strategies for automation of the preforming process.
  • Identify and implement shop floor process optimization, control methods, and work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements).
  • Establish metrics for the process including yield, cost, cycle time, capacity, safety, delivery, etc.
  • Monitor outcomes to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Lead the initiative to advance the CMC Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and support hardware production for Technology Readiness Level (TRL) demonstration.
  • Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actions.
  • Train engineers and technicians.
  • Monitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) through implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.
  • Identify, investigate, and implement new technology to address business goals.
  • Support a 24/7 operation as required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 8+ years experience in Engineering or 5+ years with an advance degree.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
  • Experience with polymer, metal, or ceramic matrix composites.
  • Working knowledge of quality and process improvement tools such as Six Sigma and LEAN.
  • Basic proficiency in CAD or solid modeling software.
  • Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements.
  • Knowledge and effective practice of aerospace quality practices like ISO 9001 AS 9100.
