Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Designer to join our team at ZCS Engineering & Architecture. As a key member of our structural engineering discipline, you will be responsible for managing projects from concept to completion, developing construction documents, and collaborating with project partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage project delivery and utilize staff to produce projects from concept through construction, including project status monitoring, tracking staff schedules and workload, project deadlines, and completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Perform structural calculations and prepare calculation packages for jurisdictional approval.
  • Lead project development through standard design processes, including schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Review construction documents for compliance with applicable codes, including the International Building Code (IBC), Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC), ASCE 41, AISC Manual of Steel Construction, ACI-318, and National Design Specification for Wood Construction (NDS).
  • Collaborate with project partners, including in-house disciplines, owners, architects, sub-consultants, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist and instruct entry-level staff on design, technical, and project management best practices.
Requirements
  • 4-year or 5-year bachelor's degree or master's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
  • 5 years minimum post-graduate structural engineering experience in a consulting firm that provides structural engineering services for low to mid-rise structures.
  • EIT is preferred but not required.
  • Critical thinking with engagement skills coupled with detailed execution of concepts in a deadline-driven arena.
  • Strong, experienced writer.
  • Possess strong technical skills and an aptitude for project management.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as we support projects around the state.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and basic element design packages such as Enercalc or StruCalc required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e., keyboarding, data entry).
  • Must be able to see and hear in order to gather and input information; respond to face-to-face and telephone inquiries.
  • Must be able to drive and have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in low light conditions, with desk lamps versus overhead lighting.
  • Ability to walk throughout a warehouse floor following our internal safety guidelines.
