Position Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the preparation and maintenance of surgical instruments for medical procedures. This position involves the cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of surgical tools, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate operations in the processing department following established protocols.
  • Conduct startup procedures and performance testing of sterilization equipment, documenting results accurately.
  • Receive and manage contaminated instruments in the decontamination area, ensuring proper disassembly and preparation for cleaning.
  • Guarantee that instruments requiring manual cleaning are processed effectively.
  • Assemble instrument sets based on inventory requirements and prepare them for sterilization.
  • Perform biological monitoring on sterilization loads containing implants, maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Operate sterilization machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Review and document biological test results, communicating any positive findings to nursing management.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and uphold quality control and infection prevention standards.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure the availability of necessary instruments for surgical procedures.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current certification as a CRCST from IAHCSMM or CBSPD is mandatory.
  • 1-3 years of experience in sterile processing is preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift and transport instrument trays and medical equipment, weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Capability to perform bending, lifting, and washing tasks associated with decontamination processes.
Additional Information
  • Standard work schedule is Monday through Friday, with no weekend or holiday shifts.
  • Flexibility to adjust shifts or work across multiple locations may be required.
