Medical Coding Expert for Risk Adjustment

MedPOINT Management seeks a skilled Medical Coding Expert to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with healthcare providers to ensure accurate coding and risk adjustment practices.
About the Role
This is a full-time position that requires travel to various locations throughout Southern California. You will be responsible for reviewing medical records, identifying coding risks, and providing education to providers on correct coding and charting practices. Your expertise in CPT, ICD-10-CM, and medical anatomy and terminology will be crucial in ensuring accurate diagnosis coding.
Main Responsibilities
- Review and audit medical records to identify coding risk areas
- Educate providers on correct coding and charting practices
- Provide written documentation of potential HCC codes to providers at the point of care
- Resolve or clarify codes or diagnoses with conflicting, missing or unclear information
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of medical coding guidelines and regulations
- Maintain a professional and supportive working relationship with clinic staff, health plan staff, administration, and physicians
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in finance/business, medical records technology, health services administration, nursing, or other ancillary medical area
- Certification in one of the following: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and three or more years of coding experience
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs; primarily Word and Excel 2013 or higher
- Demonstrated expertise with CPT, ICD-10-CM, medical anatomy, and terminology in assigning accurate diagnosis coding
- Sound knowledge of medical coding/billing guidelines and regulations including compliance and reimbursement
- Working knowledge of Medicare risk adjustment principles and audit processes
- Current CA Driver's license with current auto insurance
Estimated Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 per year
