Role Responsibilities:
The Custodian will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for both guests and staff by maintaining the cleanliness of our facilities. This includes adhering to the Gardens' Community Agreements and supporting IDEA principles.

The position involves working with minimal supervision and encompasses daily, event-related, and seasonal tasks. Opportunities are available for both year-round and seasonal employment. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt role, with the potential for overtime. Custodians will participate in a rotating schedule to ensure coverage for our 7-day/week operations, including after-hours events. Night and weekend shifts are required, though some scheduling flexibility may be offered.

Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A keen attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality standards.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • A collaborative spirit, recognizing and valuing the strengths and weaknesses of team members.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate cleaning and maintenance tools such as vacuums, mops, and brooms.
  • The capability to read and follow instructions for cleaning products safely.
  • Flexibility to switch tasks on short notice and respond positively to urgent situations.
  • The ability to work safely from a ladder and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, stooping, and reaching.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in email and scheduling programs.
  • A commitment to integrating IDEA principles into all aspects of work.

Key Duties:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking restrooms according to established practices.
  • Dusting and wiping furniture, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and shampooing carpets.
  • Emptying and cleaning wastebaskets and trash containers, washing windows, and cleaning blinds.
  • Maintaining organization and inventory control systems.
  • Locking and unlocking assigned buildings, ensuring security when facilities are not in use.
  • Performing seasonal cleaning tasks, including snow and debris removal.
  • Responding to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as needed.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to work indoors and outdoors in various climatic conditions. Candidates should be able to lift up to 50 lbs and carry up to 25 lbs, including navigating stairs and outdoor venues. Frequent standing, walking, and repetitive motion tasks are integral to this position.

Compensation:
The hourly wage for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.
