ROLE SUMMARY

Southland Industries is seeking a talented Project Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful coordination of commercial MEP projects. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in estimating, scheduling, and project management within the design-build construction process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist project managers in coordinating projects using engineering, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services.
  • Develop skills in estimating, scheduling, and design to better understand the coordination of the design-build construction process.
  • Support field labor, labor feedback, equipment and subcontractor procurement, document control, design, trade, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Assist in budget analysis, cost, and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts, etc.
  • Assist in the development of project schedules.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic skills in inquiring, reviewing, and printing job cost reports, labor feedback entry, and purchase order entry.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC design, including types of equipment used in the industry and general understanding of system operations.
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
  • Ability to prepare equipment delivery logs and track the status of these orders.
  • Competent in general business writing and public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers to procure, manage, and update the submittal process.
  • Ability to communicate with field foremen to write and track RFI's both internally with our design department and externally with the architect or other designers.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including CAD drawings, blueprints, submittals, etc.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience working with a mechanical contractor and supporting project work or as a design engineer who wants to get into operations.
  • Some experience and knowledge of HVAC systems and design.
  • Design Build experience is a plus.
