Position Summary:

Security Guards are tasked with ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere for guests and team members at Canterbury Park. Responsibilities include enforcing state laws and the regulations set forth by the Minnesota Racing Commission. Each day presents unique challenges and opportunities. You will support the company’s mission, vision, and values by providing an unparalleled entertainment experience while adhering to the Canterbury Way, which emphasizes family, fun, integrity, and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Exemplify high standards of hospitality and maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
  2. Foster teamwork, boost morale, inspire collaboration, and offer constructive feedback to management.
  3. Thoroughly familiarize yourself with the property to identify and report any hazards that could jeopardize public safety.
  4. Monitor and control the entry and exit of employees, guests, and visitors to prevent theft and ensure premises security.
  5. Safeguard individuals and property during the transport of money, documents, or valuable assets.
  6. Respond to various incidents, including medical emergencies, severe weather, thefts, assaults, bomb threats, evacuations, rule violations, conflicts, and criminal activities, providing first aid as needed.
  7. Prepare accurate reports of all incidents encountered in a clear and professional manner suitable for external distribution.
  8. When assigned to the security office, oversee CCTV monitoring, radio communications, alarm systems, equipment sign-in/out, and respond to security office inquiries.
  9. Understand and implement Canterbury Park's Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures as required.
  10. Assist with additional tasks during live racing events, including working at the Stable Gate and Detention Barn.
  11. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, high moral integrity, and a solid work ethic.
  3. CPR certification or the ability to obtain it.
  4. Ability to interact positively with guests, employees, and the public.
  5. Capability to assess situations effectively and identify critical issues quickly while adhering to protocols.
  6. Must successfully pass pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check, work history verification, drug screening, and compliance with Canterbury Park's Safe Driving Policy.
  7. Must obtain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous education and/or experience in law enforcement.
  2. High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Maintain a flexible schedule, which may include nights and weekends during the live racing season.

While performing essential duties, employees must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods, which may involve climbing stairs, walking on inclines, or traversing uneven terrain throughout their shift.

Occasional bending, kneeling, crouching, jumping, and crawling may be required.

Ability to operate and communicate effectively via radio or telephone equipment.

This position may involve outdoor work in various weather conditions.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
