Job Title: Construction Quality Assurance Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Construction Quality Assurance Engineer to join our Engineering Services Division Office team. As a vital member of our team, you will contribute to the implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in support of systems, structure, and component modifications and new installations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide field engineering support through review of construction submittals, technical clarification of design during construction, and assurance that installations conform to design drawings and manufacturer's instructions.
  • Timely identification of potential design conflicts, scheduling testing and inspection of constructed work, documenting quality assurance and control processes, and assisting with preparation of constructed work for commissioning.
  • Assist with turnover of completed work to facilities and provide one-on-one mentoring of Construction Quality Assurance Engineer Level 1s.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic construction engineering principles.
  • Demonstrated ability in reading and understanding engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications to ensure their completeness and constructability.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting construction industry specifications, construction means and methods, and national construction codes and standards relevant to the field engineering discipline.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes, and standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in collaborative problem-solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
  • Obtaining and maintaining commercial inspection certifications associated with specific disciplines (e.g., International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), or other relevant commercial certifications).
Education and Experience:

Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
