Position Summary / Career Interest:
Sleep Study Technicians play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care within the realm of sleep medicine. They are tasked with executing clinical protocols, conducting sleep assessments, calibrating and maintaining diagnostic equipment, and providing education to patients and their families. Under the guidance of the Sleep Disorders Center Manager and Medical Director, these professionals possess specialized training in sleep diagnostics and uphold a clean and safe environment in accordance with health system standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts professional, clinical, and technical competencies in sleep diagnostics.
- Prepares patients for sleep studies in alignment with departmental protocols.
- Accurately scores sleep study records based on established criteria and generates comprehensive reports.
- Administers multiple sleep latency tests as per departmental guidelines.
- Performs nocturnal oximetry studies and evaluates oxygen needs when necessary.
- Ensures maintenance and calibration of equipment following manufacturer and departmental procedures.
- Collects and analyzes arterial blood gases in accordance with departmental standards.
- Monitors patients during sleep, documenting significant events and ensuring accurate data collection.
- Facilitates the upkeep of a sleep database.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues and implements corrective actions to restore functionality.
- Cleans and disinfects equipment in line with infection prevention standards.
- Utilizes independent judgment in applying policies and protocols, demonstrating self-motivation and professionalism.
- Maintains a patient-centered approach, supporting the mission and values of the organization.
- Adheres to policies, procedures, and departmental standards.
- Collaborates with physicians and healthcare staff to ensure quality patient care.
- Builds positive relationships with patients and demonstrates effective communication skills across all age groups.
- Assists in supervising staff during advanced procedures as directed.
- Participates in the orientation and training of new staff and students.
- Supports administrative functions such as patient scheduling and registration as needed.
- Possesses the ability to perform the essential clinical competencies of the assigned department.

- High School Diploma
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or a related field.
- Master's Degree in Respiratory Care or a related field.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) within one year.
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RT) - State Board of Healing Arts.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA).
- Experience in respiratory therapy or RPSGT.
- Clinical instruction experience for students.
- Membership in regional and national respiratory therapy or sleep organizations.
