POSITION: Culinary Operations Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager, Chef, General Manager, District Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Non-Exempt
The responsibilities outlined below are intended to convey the general nature and level of work performed by individuals in this role. They are not to be interpreted as an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and skills required for this position. Employees may be asked to perform tasks outside of their normal responsibilities as needed.
Position Overview:
The primary role of the Culinary Operations Supervisor is to assist in managing all kitchen activities under the supervision of the Chef/Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: This position is expected to perform the duties of non-management roles and handle all opening and closing tasks of the kitchen. The Culinary Operations Supervisor will frequently act as the host and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the shift. Additional responsibilities include seasonal outdoor work, maintaining excellent customer relations, and providing outstanding service to all patrons. The Supervisor must be capable of performing all regular duties of a line cook, managing labor and food costs, overseeing side work, maintaining cleanliness, training staff, and executing administrative tasks as assigned by management. The Supervisor will effectively address issues as they arise and report them to the head manager, ensuring customer satisfaction by meeting their needs and requests whenever possible. The role may involve physically demanding work and requires the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Supervisor must also work well independently and collaboratively as part of a team. All employees are expected to perform their duties safely and report any safety concerns to the Chef/Head Manager or District Management. Furthermore, all McMenamins employees are required to stay informed about company events, history, and products. Other tasks may be assigned by the Manager on duty.
Job Requirements:
- Obtain and maintain a current food handler's card
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred but not mandatory
- Strong knowledge of food and cooking techniques is essential
- Availability for full-time work with a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Deliver exceptional customer service in a high-volume setting
- Safely lift and transport heavy items using a hand truck or with assistance
- Value diversity and work effectively with individuals from various backgrounds
- Stand for extended periods, including frequent walking and climbing stairs
- Accurately handle cash and work with numerical data
- Exhibit excellent customer service and communication skills
- Perform repetitive movements such as pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting
- Engage in fine hand manipulation, including handling various objects, using a computer keyboard, writing, chopping, and operating kitchen equipment
- Maintain composure and focus in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
- Supervise shifts effectively
- Possess a working knowledge of all company policies and procedures
- Maintain a positive, polite, and cooperative demeanor with co-workers, managers, vendors, and customers
- Work safely with sharp objects, including knives and slicers
- Handle cleaning and sanitizing chemicals (some locations may also require working around cigar and cigarette smoke)
