Job Title: Nursing Shift Coordinator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nursing Shift Coordinator to join our team at Contra Costa County Health Services Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supervising hospital nursing activities on an assigned shift, ensuring nursing staff levels are adequate to meet patient census.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise hospital nursing activities on an assigned shift
  • Serve as a clinical resource for patient care needs
  • Act as a resource person in the absence of administration
  • Participate in special projects/assignments and quality improvement activities
  • Represent nursing administration on evening, night, and weekend shifts in the absence of the Director of Inpatient Nursing Operations
  • Recommend policies and procedures to improve nursing services
  • Implement nursing administrative policies, procedures, and standards for nursing staff
  • Schedule relief nursing coverage for all units and for all shifts
  • As needed, initiate disaster procedures in the absence of hospital administration
  • Ensure adherence to State regulations and Joint Committee on Accreditation of Hospital regulations
  • Arrange for call-ins of ancillary staff as necessary
  • Makes rounds to oversee nursing care
  • Interpret hospital policies and procedures to staff, patients, and visitors
  • Provide and promote excellence in customer service for both internal and external customers

Requirements:

  • Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; AND a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider); AND Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, one (1) year of which was in the capacity of a Charge Nurse or Head Nurse or other supervisory/leadership role

Selection Process:

Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.

The training and experience questionnaire is designed to measure candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as it relates to the Nursing Shift Coordinator classification.
