Job DetailsJob LocationMain Hospital Campus Headquarters - Madison, WVDescriptionSummaryThe Laboratory Support Specialist is responsible for providing optimal, safe, and effective care to patients utilizing the hospital policies and procedures. The Specialist will obtain and prepare specimens for analysis and perform various screening tests as well as assist with other related activities involved in providing patient care in compliance with hospital standards, as well as federal, state, and local government regulationsEssential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.The Laboratory Support Specialist is expected to perform the following essential functions:Collection of routine, timed and STAT specimens.Proper identification of patient(s) prior to collection.Provide age-appropriate care for neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.Transport specimens to laboratory in accordance with current infection control and prevention policies.Collect chain-of-custody specimens, when required.Responsible for answering the phone, assessing the need and responding accordingly.QualificationsRequired Skills, Qualifications, and CompetenciesProficient in competencies as outlined in the laboratory support competency assessment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent time management skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNonePhysical demandsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.Travel requiredNone expected.Required education and experienceCertification from an accredited Laboratory Support or Medical Assistant program is preferred.Preferred education and experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalentOther DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
