Position Overview

The volunteer is essential in improving the quality of care provided to patients and their families through various supportive activities, whether direct patient engagement or administrative tasks that align with the hospice agency's mission of delivering exceptional patient and family care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the hospice program and/or patient/family in line with assigned activities.
  • Contribute to the Plan of Care and participate in Interdisciplinary Group meetings as needed.
  • Document services provided accurately as per training and agency guidelines.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding patient information.
  • Report any changes in patient status or observations to the designated supervisor or Administrator.
  • Attend a minimum of four (4) in-service training sessions annually.
  • Engage in community outreach initiatives for the agency.
    Bereavement Volunteer: Understand the death and dying process; interact compassionately with families; assist with post-death arrangements; support agency memorial services or activities; promote community education on end-of-life topics.
  • Patient Care Volunteer: Maintain accurate, timely, and objective documentation of each patient/family interaction; schedule regular visits as outlined in the Plan of Care; provide respite care for families; attend IDG meetings for Plan of Care updates as necessary; communicate any changes or observations to the assigned supervisor and Administrator.
  • Administrative Volunteer: Complete all tasks promptly; ensure paperwork is neat, thorough, and legible.
Qualifications

Experience: Less than 6 months

Educational Requirements
  • Volunteers providing patient care and support services must comply with agency policies and work under the supervision of an agency employee.
Experience Requirements
  • Experience in working with individuals and a willingness to serve others.
Skill Requirements
  • A mature, non-judgmental, caring, and people-oriented individual who supports the hospice care philosophy.
  • Completion of the Volunteer Training Program.
