Behavioral Health Specialist

The Needs Assessment and Referral Counselor provides critical support to individuals in need of mental health services. This role involves conducting telephonic and in-person risk assessments, crisis intervention, and initial contact with referral sources and potential patients. The successful candidate will coordinate the referral and intake process, determine the appropriate level of care, facilitate the admission process, and maintain communication with referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough risk assessments and crisis intervention to ensure the well-being of individuals in need
- Establish and maintain relationships with referral sources, families, patients, and unit staff to facilitate a smooth admission process
- Determine the appropriate level of care for individuals based on their unique needs and circumstances
- Coordinate the referral and intake process to ensure timely and effective support
- Foster a collaborative environment to promote open communication and teamwork
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mental health services, crisis intervention, and risk assessment. A background in social work, counseling, or a related field is highly desirable. The successful candidate will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Education and Experience: A degree in social work, counseling, or a related field is required. Prior experience in mental health services, crisis intervention, and risk assessment is highly desirable.
Licensure and Certification: A valid license to practice in the state of employment is required. Certification in crisis intervention and risk assessment is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Strong understanding of mental health services, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
Work Environment: This role will be based in a hospital or healthcare setting, with regular interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
