Job Overview

Baltimore City Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced HVAC Technician II to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic school environment, maintaining a wide range of HVAC and mechanical systems, ensuring a safe and comfortable learning space for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair various HVAC and mechanical systems, including low-pressure and high-pressure boilers, air handler units, and more.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on various equipment, including filter changes, belt maintenance, and coil cleaning.
  • Monitor and adjust temperature and schedule settings using building automation controls and programs.
  • Keep accurate daily logs and input data into a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Perform pump sizing, water flow calculations, heat load calculations, pipe sizing, and installation.
  • Supervise and manage other maintenance and service employees assigned to assist.
  • Manage inventory and requisition supplies through the supervisor.
  • Maintain boiler and mechanical rooms, including sump pump monitoring and safety protocol for workspace as prescribed by OSHA regulations.
Competencies

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in the inspection, repair, connection, maintenance, and replacement of various tubing and piping, including copper, black steel, galvanized piping, and stainless-steel piping.
  • Knowledge of hot water and steam boilers, air atomizing and rotary type burners, absorption, centrifugal and reciprocating chilling plants, and pneumatic temperature control systems.
  • Knowledge of variable air and constant air volume systems.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in maintaining and repairing heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating systems.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in the operations, maintenance, and repair of commercial hot water and steam boilers, commercial air handler units, and related equipment.
  • A valid second or third-grade stationary engineer's certificate issued by the Maryland State Board of Examining Engineers.
  • A universal EPA refrigerant certification.
  • A valid Maryland Class C driver's license and own transportation.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and operation and maintenance manuals.
