Safety Management System Consultant

Pivotal is a pioneering company in the electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft industry. We design, develop, and manufacture light eVTOL aircraft, pushing the boundaries of innovation and safety.

As a Safety Management System (SMS) Consultant, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing a comprehensive SMS that ensures adherence to industry-leading safety risk management practices, policies, and training programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the design of the safety management system, tools, and training across product safety, operational safety, and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). They will create processes and training to support company leaders and technical subject matter experts in risk or hazard assessments across a wide cross-section of product development, testing, and manufacturing tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Safety Management System
  • Assist in the design of safety management tools and training programs
  • Lead focus teams through challenging safety-related training scenarios
  • Generate clear and concise documentation, processes, and procedures consistent with regulatory best practices
  • Train team members on SMS documentation to grow the safety culture within the company
  • Manage messages up the reporting chain as well as down into working-level teams
  • Identify areas of improvement in safety processes and develop plans to enact the changes
  • Discover effective root cause analyses of events and incidents
  • Coordinate program-level activities
  • Develop standardization of safety practices

Requirements:

  • Possess detailed understanding of FAA Part 5 (or equivalent) and familiarity with aviation industry-specific safety regulations and compliance requirements
  • Have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (Engineering or aviation safety field desired)
  • At least 8 years of professional aviation experience (Flight or system test experience desired)
  • At least 3 years experience in safety & risk management
  • Experience in FAA or military-regulated environments (121, 135, airport, test, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in aviation safety and risk management, internal safety communications, and data analysis/visualization/presentation
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing Safety Management Systems, preferably in the aviation or transportation industry
  • Strong knowledge of safety risk management principles and practices
  • Experience in creating and delivering safety training programs
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Strong technical and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
