PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Food Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting the Food Concept & Development Managers in creating innovative products and bringing them to market, specifically focusing on high-quality poultry products while ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
• Engage in product development initiatives that may involve larger projects or greater complexity, including the creation of prototype products, effective communication with stakeholders, and maintaining organized documentation processes, updating as required.
• Enhance and refine the project summary process as necessary.
• Support the commercialization of products, ensuring that both products and processes comply with internal guidelines as well as external regulatory and legal standards.
• Conduct necessary data entry and modifications essential for the commercialization process of key projects using relevant software, including finalizing formulas, procuring ingredient and packaging documentation, developing specifications, obtaining customer approvals, and validating cooking or reconstitution instructions.
• Collaborate with various internal departments (Scheduling, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Research & Development project managers) to facilitate plant scale-up activities, including protocol meetings, data collection, and specification adjustments.
• Adhere to safety protocols by wearing all required personal protective equipment in designated areas, promoting a culture of safety.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• This position is an individual contributor role requiring competencies such as Functional/Technical Skills, Action Orientation, Problem Solving, Quick Learning, and Interpersonal Savvy.
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in food product development, with a preference for experience in the poultry sector.
• Proven leadership abilities, including conflict resolution and team leadership experience.
• Demonstrated technical expertise with a focus on continuous process improvement in ongoing projects.
• Experience in managing or assisting with project management from inception through to completion.
• Familiarity with practical laboratory skills and a basic understanding of statistical analysis.
• Strong proficiency in computer applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with all organizational levels in a professional and timely manner.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, coupled with strong planning capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• A customer-centric mindset, high energy, and a strong sense of urgency.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
• Comply with departmental and company safety policies and programs.
• Utilize required protective equipment in all mandatory areas.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Willingness to work extended or unusual shifts as necessary to meet project deadlines.
• Capability to move freely within the facility.
