Job Description

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Co-Products Trader to join our team in Decatur, IL. As a key member of our trade team, you will be responsible for the trade of our Gluten Feed product for our unit and manifest rail program.

Main Functions:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy for Gluten Feed in collaboration with our product manager, transload operations, and global execution team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of customers, including premium and volume accounts.
  • Understand customer requirements to collaborate and add value to both companies.
  • Maintain a clear customer account list and provide detailed background information in files.
  • Handle all accounting-related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service.
  • Ensure the most cost-efficient transportation and logistics.
  • Develop a good working knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities.
  • Develop a clear understanding of local, national, and world markets and trends.
  • Aggressively make outbound phone calls to deliver and receive timely market information.
  • Price discovery and bid/offer maintenance to enhance risk management and pricing.
  • Understanding of margin calculations and their effect on commodity pricing.
  • Understand the value of ADM-owned transportation (i.e., barges, trucks, and railcars) and how to enhance value.
  • Understand and adhere to corporate compliance policies and safety systems and programs.
  • Ensure that individual goals are aligned with company goals.
  • Constantly work on individual personal development within the company.
  • Develop a good understanding of local plant operations.
  • Work to attain positive, cooperative relationships with internal colleagues across divisions and responsibilities.
  • Effectively use communication channels for proper coordination within the office and other locations.
  • Portray a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Prepare and submit daily and ad hoc reports.
  • Help in the development and training of new employees.
  • Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends.
Requirements:
  • University degree in agriculture or business (i.e., economics, finance, accounting).
  • Experience in the marketing of commodities and related food, feed, and/or fuel products in North America is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel within a high-risk, fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong sales skills and an aggressive personality are assets in this position.
  • Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic trade.
  • Proven ability to manage effectively within a team-based work environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with end-users, suppliers, and internal customers.
  • Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of spreadsheet, database, word processing software, and applications within a Windows-based environment.
