The Stationary Engineer is a critical member of our campus facilities team, responsible for operating and maintaining stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide utilities such as heat and cooling for buildings and industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities- Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Monitor and operate stationary engines, air compressors, motors, turbines, steam boilers, and chillers to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Monitoring and Record-Keeping: Read meters and gauges, and maintain records of equipment performance, fuel consumption, and other relevant data.
- Equipment Repair and Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as tightening fittings, repacking bearings, and replacing gaskets and valves, to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and perform repairs as needed to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with safety standards and regulations, and maintain a safe working environment.
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; 2+ years of experience in HVAC equipment operation and maintenance preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: State of Illinois Stationary Engineer license required; EPA Universal Certification license preferred.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and excellent problem-solving skills.
