Job Title: Senior Engineer, Cloud Architecture

Your impact:

In the role of Senior Engineer, Cloud Architecture, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and evaluation of cloud infrastructure for Intelsat's advanced network solutions. Your efforts will facilitate collaboration across the organization to shape Intelsat's comprehensive hybrid cloud framework, encompassing both public and private cloud initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the integrity of design for cloud infrastructure elements, including network interface cards, memory, and cabling.
  • Keep the host environment current by updating the host operating system, software releases, and related dependencies.
  • Configure and implement virtual network functions (VNFs) and containerized network functions (CNFs) within cloud virtualization and orchestration platforms such as vSphere and Rancher.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues associated with the deployment of hosted VNFs and CNFs.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain pertinent documentation and design schematics for transition to engineering teams.
  • Possess a strong understanding of security management best practices in cloud computing.
  • Identify and mitigate known security vulnerabilities in hosted virtual machines.
  • Assist in the enablement of new network services reliant on cloud infrastructure.
  • Explore technologies, systems, and methodologies to optimize capital and operational expenditures.
  • Contribute to Intelsat's technology roadmap, including data center architecture and orchestration of virtual network functions across Intelsat's global network.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design cloud infrastructure that integrates seamlessly with Intelsat's IP/MPLS network and future mobile networks.
  • Support technical leads in business process automation and service orchestration to ensure cloud resource allocation aligns with other systems.
  • Assist in the development of cloud monitoring tools for data centers.
  • Support cloud leaders in development initiatives for both private and public cloud environments.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • This position is subject to EAR/ITAR regulations; candidates must be US Persons (US Citizens, Permanent Residents, Asylees, Refugees).
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or technology is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in cloud architectures and associated network functions.
  • Technical proficiency in data center virtualization, containerization, and orchestration of VNFs/CNFs within a global hybrid cloud environment.
  • Experience with RHEL, Kubernetes, Docker, virtualization technologies, public cloud services, Git, Ansible, and Terraform.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, resolve complex issues, and build consensus to advance projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the virtualization of key network functions utilized in next-generation SDN, mobile networks, and content delivery networks.
  • Familiarity with ETSI NFV, ONF/CORD, and other relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Standards Definition Organizations and standards pertinent to cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of architectures and solutions for Mobile Edge Computing (MEC).
  • Technical expertise in Network Function Virtualization and Software-Defined Networking technologies, including Linux, CentOS, SRIOV, DPDK, OpenStack, VMWare, KVM, OpenShift, Rancher, OVS, JSON, REST, YANG, NetConf, RestConf, OSI model, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP.
  • Understanding of cloud architectures for space-based communication networks.
