JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients within a healthcare environment. This role involves compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical products in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies. The Clinical Pharmacist serves as a vital resource for other healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, pharmacy students, and residents.

Engagement with Nursing, Medical Staff, and patients regarding medications, orders, drug details, patient reactions, errors, and complaints is essential. Responsibilities may extend to the assessment, treatment, and care of patients across all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Additionally, this position supervises and oversees the non-professional duties of pharmacy technicians, ensuring efficient daily operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Ensures that patient pharmaceutical care adheres to safety, effectiveness, patient rights, and customer service standards.

Compounds or admixtures ingredients accurately, including IV admixtures, small and large volume solutions, syringes, and irrigation solutions, following established policies and procedures.

Consults and educates patients and/or their caregivers about potential medications, including alternative drug therapy options.
Reviews medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential interactions, adjusting medications according to approved protocols.

Evaluates prescribers' medication orders concerning overall patient therapy to assess:

known allergies; rational therapy/contraindications; appropriate dosage and administration route; clear directions for use; duplication of therapy; drug-drug interactions; drug-food interactions; drug-disease interactions; adverse drug reactions; proper utilization, including over-utilization or under-utilization; and employs clinical laboratory or monitoring methods to assess drug effectiveness, side effects, toxicity, or adverse effects, and the appropriateness of continuing the current medication regimen.

Supervises and monitors the non-professional duties of Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring the organization of daily responsibilities in dispensing and patient care functions.

Reviews the work of Pharmacy Technicians to guarantee compliance with all professional standards and departmental policies, ensuring that pharmacy stock levels meet patient needs.

Assists in the inventory management, purchasing, and quality control of drugs and products, ensuring accurate charging and crediting of pharmacy product accounts.
Maintains consistent inventory and records on narcotics and other drugs as mandated by law.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Expert knowledge of Pharmacy Care modalities, pharmaceutical calculations, therapies, terminology, drug usage, and aseptic techniques, as well as relevant standards, medications, and equipment.

Ability to research, analyze, and disseminate information effectively.
Proficient in understanding, optimizing, and documenting complex processes.
Must possess clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements is essential.

General computer skills, including but not limited to:
utilizing required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.BENEFITS
