Job Overview

Responsibilities
  • Assist in coordinating the review of legal issues for HCC, performing initial analysis, preparation, verification, and documentation of legal matters.
  • Provide initial legal responses and serve as a resource person for college personnel, particularly administrators and officers.
  • Conduct investigations, gather necessary documents, and prepare for lawsuits and student or employee complaints/grievances/incidents.
  • Review HCC policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current local, state, or federal laws and regulations.
  • Research proposed actions to determine compliance with policy and law, analyzing questions and actions brought forth by administrators/employees/board.
  • Provide written reports on proper steps to void legal liability and compliance issues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and post-graduate work in law or contracts required.
  • One to two (1-2) years of experience in the legal field, preferably in post-secondary education institutions.
  • Knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis-Nexis, and other legal research databases required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally, with strong analytical, flexibility, self-motivation, dependability, and human relations skills.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, ability to work as part of a team, excellent organization, and problem-solving skills required.
