Job Title: Law Enforcement Technician

Join the County of Los Angeles, CA team as a Law Enforcement Technician and play a vital role in maintaining public safety and order. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to sworn personnel, assisting with law enforcement-related services and support functions, and ensuring the efficient operation of our facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to sworn personnel, including preparing requisitions for unit supplies, maintaining supply inventory, and determining replacement or restocking needs.
  • Ensure departmental vehicles are inspected, serviced, and maintained to meet operational needs, and complete reports to record monthly mileage usage, gas and oil consumption, and credit card usage.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of facility vehicles and maintain vehicle maintenance and repair records.
  • Receive and respond to telephone and in-person requests for services, including 911 emergencies and fire calls, citizens' complaints, and general inquiries.
  • Assign, coordinate, and dispatch field units in response to requests for services, advise responding units of possible problem areas, and monitor field units' activities.
  • Monitor emergency communications of other police and fire agencies to determine needs for assistance and ensure assigned calls and other relevant information are entered into the station computer.
  • Act as a liaison between station personnel, other law enforcement agencies, emergency service organizations, and the Sheriff's Radio Center, as directed.
  • Assume full radio dispatching responsibility on an assigned frequency in the event of power failure or other emergency situation at the Sheriff's Radio Center.
  • Issue station file control numbers to track official reports, review the contents of these reports to ensure they are complete and accurate, and perform various routine desk functions, including compilation and entering of statistical data in law enforcement databases to prepare crime and other reports.
  • Assign and oversee work performed by inmate laborers under the general supervision of sworn personnel.
  • Receive, list, catalogue, store, and release personal and/or evidentiary property at a patrol station in compliance with established departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Transport, load, and unload large, bulky, and/or heavy personal and/or evidentiary property to a warehouse or other location as needed.
  • Assist patrol station personnel with crime prevention functions, acting as a liaison to other public agencies and private prevention organizations involved in crime prevention, maintain inventory of crime prevention resources, distribute crime prevention materials and resources, and participate in maintaining station crime prevention budget needs.
  • Assist in the investigation of alleged violations of laws and regulations by gathering, assembling, and examining a variety of records and data pertinent to the case being investigated.
  • Drive throughout Los Angeles County or utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related functions.
Requirements:
  • Option I: Two years of experience working for a public safety agency performing law enforcement-related services and support duties.
  • Option II: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid California class "C" driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related functions.
  • PHYSICAL CLASS IV - ARDUOUS: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces.
