The County of San Diego is seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join our team as Deputy Sheriff's Cadets. As a Deputy Sheriff's Cadet, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience in law enforcement, while working towards a rewarding career in public safety.
Job SummaryThe Deputy Sheriff's Cadet classification is utilized only for Sheriff personnel participating in the Department's law enforcement training academy. Cadets must successfully complete an intensive 25-week law enforcement academy, which includes classroom studies and examinations in various subjects such as Communications, Criminal Investigations, Custody Procedures, Force and Weaponry, and more.
Responsibilities- Participate in the Department's law enforcement training academy
- Complete classroom studies and examinations in various subjects
- Develop skills and knowledge in law enforcement procedures and techniques
- Work towards a rewarding career in public safety
- Must be 20 1/2 years of age at time of application, and 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Obtain a U.S. High school graduate or G.E.D.; or a degree from a two-year or four-year accredited U.S. college or university
- Meet employment guidelines and standards established by the Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
- Ability to carry, possess, receive, and own a firearm throughout employment
The selection process for Deputy Sheriff's Cadet includes a written examination, background investigation, and employment interview. Candidates who are successful in the initial screening process will be invited to take the written examination, which consists of the California Peace Officers Standards Training (POST) Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery.
