The Department of Social Science at the Community College of Philadelphia invites applications for a part-time position for the academic year. This faculty member will teach courses for the Restorative Justice Proficiency Certificate program at Community College of Philadelphia. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in partnership with the National Center on Restorative Justice. The goal is to expand the program to other community colleges, historically Black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, and prison education programs. The employee will contribute to the ongoing development of coursework that supports this broader educational mission.
About the ProgramThe Community College of Philadelphia's Proficiency Certificate program in Restorative Justice provides students with both the philosophical and practical knowledge to facilitate and advocate for restorative processes in community, education, human resources, legal, and justice settings. This cohort program grounds students in the expanding global social movement toward restorative justice approaches that empower impacted people to take accountability for harm and healing. This approach contrasts with punitive systems that do justice to or for responsible and harmed parties. The program connects students as a community of learners and provides research, volunteer, experiential learning, and mentorship opportunities within restorative justice initiatives in Philadelphia.
About the CollegeCommunity College of Philadelphia is an open-admission, predominantly Black institution and a minority-serving institution which provides access to higher education for all who may benefit. CCP's Strategic Plan affirms the College's long-standing commitment to quality, access, affordability and upward mobility while including an emphasis on diversity, equity and inclusion. This plan firmly plants student success at the center of all efforts, establishing the means for each student to achieve their goals.
