Harnham is in search of a highly qualified and driven professional to spearhead their bioinformatics division as the Head of Bioinformatics. In this pivotal role, you will be tasked with directing the formulation, execution, and upkeep of bioinformatics strategies and systems. Your collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including bioinformatics experts and data specialists, will be essential to ensure the proficient application of computational resources in the evaluation and interpretation of extensive biological datasets.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and guide a team of bioinformaticians, fostering their career development, cultivating a cooperative work atmosphere, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule.
  2. Formulate and execute bioinformatics strategies that align with the organization's objectives and scientific goals.
  3. Supervise the architecture and deployment of computational workflows for the analysis, integration, and interpretation of various biological data.
  4. Work in partnership with research scientists and data specialists to pinpoint computational requirements, convert scientific inquiries into analytical processes, and offer direction for data management, quality assurance, and statistical evaluation.
  5. Encourage innovation by remaining informed about new bioinformatics tools, methodologies, and best practices, integrating them strategically into the bioinformatics framework.
  6. Guarantee the prompt delivery of superior bioinformatics outcomes by instituting stringent quality control and validation measures.

Qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline. (A master's degree with significant relevant experience may be considered).
  2. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a bioinformatics team, showcasing strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of bioinformatics techniques, algorithms, and tools typically employed in the analysis of biological datasets.
  4. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python) along with experience in relevant scripting languages and statistical software.
  5. Robust understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and associated fields, with the capacity to translate intricate biological queries into computational methodologies.
  6. Experience with high-throughput data analysis (e.g., next-generation sequencing) and familiarity with pertinent bioinformatics databases and resources.
  7. Proven expertise in the design and execution of computational pipelines for data analysis, integration, and visualization.
