Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at UPMC Horizon. This is a rotating shifts position that requires travel to support both UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley and UPMC Greenville.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, including waived, moderately complex, and high complexity testing.
  • Interact with laboratory customers, respond to telephone inquiries, and practice pleasant communications.
  • Meet established testing protocols for precision and accuracy, and recognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results.
  • Assist with the training and orienting of new employees, students, and residents, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, perform quality control checks, and perform minor repairs.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 6 months experience in a clinical laboratory required, with 1 year of experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
  • Experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory.
