Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Driver to join our team at Franklin City Public Schools. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as to various extracurricular activities and events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transportation Operations: Safely operate a school bus, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations, and ensuring the timely pick-up and discharge of passengers.
  • Student Safety: Assist students in and out of the bus, provide sensitive assistance to riders with special needs, and maintain a safe and respectful environment on the bus.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform regular safety inspections and maintenance on the bus, and report any defects or issues to the supervisor.
  • Communication: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, students, and faculty, and provide excellent customer service to special needs individuals.
Requirements
  • Education and Certifications: High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by one to two years of experience in student transportation, public transportation, or a related field. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
  • License and Endorsements: Possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license (Passenger/Student endorsement) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors for extended periods, and perform frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, grasping, and reaching.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires working flexible hours, including early morning and late afternoon shifts. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with students, parents, and staff.
