Key Responsibilities


The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes direct patient care, education for patients and families, and managing transitions of care.

The RN supports professional nursing practices across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to fulfill the needs of patients and their families.

Within the Mayo Nursing Care Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.


Professional Standards:
The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice serve as the foundation for RN practice. The RN provides leadership through roles such as preceptor, informal leadership, and participation in quality improvement initiatives. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. Excellent communication skills, mentoring abilities, and participation in committees or projects are essential.

This position is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of the Visa Screen or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program.


All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a start date after a specified date must provide documented evidence of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing within five years from their start date.


Entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a start date prior to the specified date must provide documented evidence of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing as per the requirements at the time of hire.


Preferred: One year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.

Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) are required. Experience in a collaborative team environment is essential. Proficiency in computer skills is necessary, with prior experience in electronic medical record systems preferred. Flexibility to work various hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts is required. The ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the workplace is crucial. Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and strong critical thinking skills are essential.

Licensure and Certification:
Current RN license as per state regulations.

Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS competency from recognized programs.

Positions not located on campus may not require current BLS competency as determined by the work area.

Additional state licensure and/or specialty certification may be required based on the work area.
