Wellstar Health System is seeking a dedicated Nursing Assistant - Care Partner in the Neuro MedSurg department. This is a Full-Time Day Shift position.
The Care Partner serves as a vital support provider under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The primary goal of the Care Partner is to enhance the patient experience by collaborating with nurses, physicians, and the healthcare team to deliver outstanding patient care. Responsibilities include assisting with daily living activities and comfort measures. The Care Partner is expected to perform fundamental patient care tasks, such as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), ambulation, and monitoring vital signs.
Additional advanced technical training may be necessary, including skills such as phlebotomy, basic treatments, dressing changes, oral suctioning, and discontinuing Foley catheters. The specific advanced skills required will vary based on the unit's needs. Clerical duties such as data retrieval, maintaining unit supplies, and transporting patient medications will also be part of the role. The Care Partner must thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating effective communication and multi-tasking abilities while working closely with the Registered Nurse and other team members. A compassionate, respectful, and service-oriented mindset is essential, along with the ability to follow directions from various healthcare providers. Strong organizational and communication skills are a must.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Excellence in Patient Experience: Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to ensure a patient-centered approach. Support a healing environment by addressing patient needs and adhering to the care plan as directed by licensed professionals. Engage patients and families in compliance with treatment plans while contributing to care continuity. Implement safety interventions consistently to minimize risks and achieve desired outcomes.
- Uphold patient rights and dignity.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in hourly patient rounding.
- Respond promptly and professionally to telephone calls and call lights, notifying the appropriate personnel as needed.
- Address patient concerns or escalate to the charge nurse when necessary.
- Offer assistance and comfort measures proactively to patients and families.
- Present oneself in a professional manner, demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of others.
- Provide patient care under the direction of the RN.
- Attend to patient care needs, including hygiene, nutrition, elimination, and physical comfort, along with advanced skills as required by the unit.
- Assist the RN and healthcare team with care delivery as assigned.
- Support direct patient admissions.
- Monitor data entry for key patient safety information.
- Participate in charge reconciliation and perform audits as requested.
Contribute to the initiatives of the healthcare team and participate in unit performance improvement efforts. Support professional nursing practices through shared leadership and ethical accountability. Assist in transporting unit supplies, patient care items, medications, and equipment as needed.
Communication
Utilize effective written and verbal communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, families, and visitors. Employ safety communication techniques to ensure clarity and understanding. Document patient care activities in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and communicate any concerns or emergencies to the RN or Charge Nurse promptly.
Safety and Infection Control
Ensure a safe environment for patient care by adhering to proper hand hygiene practices and maintaining cleanliness in patient rooms and unit areas. Follow infection control policies diligently and reinforce the importance of universal precautions with patients and their families. Utilize proper body mechanics and patient handling devices to ensure safety during care delivery.
Required Minimum Education
High school diploma or GED is required. Graduation from a state-approved program for Certified Nursing Assistants or Patient Care Tech Program is preferred.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)
All certifications must be obtained upon hire unless otherwise specified.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Certification as a Nurse Assistant is preferred.
Ability to follow detailed instructions, strong interpersonal skills, clear verbal and written communication, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. The minimum age for employment at Wellstar is 16.
