Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Public Health Nursing Coordinator - Communicable Disease and Preparedness to join our team. This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing Tuberculosis (TB) Program services and communicable disease services in collaboration with the Communicable Disease and TB Coordinator. You will serve as a back-up to the TB/CD Nurse Coordinator and be available to help when caseloads are above average. Coordinates services delivered with other agency personnel, other professionals, and the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

* Investigate and provide follow-up of newly identified cases of tuberculosis, including interviewing case/family members, identifying risk behaviors, providing education, counseling, and testing, instructing regarding treatment regimen, and scheduling appointments as needed.

* Provide patient follow-up by reviewing records, initiating correspondence between the Department and other medical care providers, maintaining close telephone contact with physicians, and advising physicians when supervised therapy is indicated due to patient non-compliance.

* Conduct surveillance activities, including monitoring NC EDSS workflow for reports of positive labs of unreported CD and TB suspected cases, completing required reports in State NC EDDS reporting system, and working closely with local physicians, healthcare facilities, epidemiologists, and state-level staff to provide adequate follow-up, referrals, and treatment based on Communicable Disease laws and guidelines.

* Serve as a liaison between clients and physicians to ensure that clients receive proper treatment and understand their treatment plans, thereby promoting compliance.

* Stay up-to-date with all areas of nursing practice in Communicable Disease and Public Health by attending workshops, in-services, conferences, and reading updates on recent changes and advances in the field.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following requirements:

* A B.S. in Nursing with a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience, or a Master's in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience, or graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina, valid North Carolina Driver's License, and completion of required certifications and training programs, including the NC Credentialed Public Health Nursing Course, Introductions to Public Health in North Carolina Online Training Series, Certificate of Public Health Nursing in North Carolina, and ICS Training 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.

* Strong knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; general knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health; working knowledge of available resources and organizations, and appropriate referral methods.

* Ability to deal tactfully with others, exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions, secure cooperation of clients, elicit needed information, maintain effective working relationships, record accurately services rendered, interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions, plan, coordinate, and supervise work of others, and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
