Job Summary: The Cashier is responsible for engaging with customers, delivering efficient checkout services, bagging and transporting groceries, locating products, and verifying prices. This role requires maintaining proficiency in transaction processes and ensuring accuracy in handling cash and other forms of payment. Additionally, the Cashier performs various customer service tasks while upholding a safe and sanitary shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure accurate checkout totals by properly weighing, entering, and scanning items.
  2. Maintain an accurate cash count in the register at all times.
  3. Familiarize oneself with product codes and stay updated on promotional items.
  4. Adhere to tender policies and procedures related to various payment methods.
  5. Exhibit a friendly and customer-focused demeanor by greeting customers, addressing inquiries, promoting products, and resolving complaints.
  6. Encourage enrollment in the Thank You Card program and assist customers with the sign-up process when applicable.
  7. Properly bag groceries by grouping similar items, limiting bag weight, preventing cross-contamination, and ensuring customers receive all purchased items.
  8. Handle products with care to avoid damage.
  9. Ensure front-end displays, drink coolers, and cleaning supply stations are stocked, clean, and presentable.
  10. Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by following company safety protocols.
  11. Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the sale of restricted items.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of cash register operations.
  • Understanding of tender policies and procedures.
  • Basic mathematical and counting abilities.
  • Capacity to learn new technology systems and processes.
  • Ability to maintain a courteous attitude with customers at all times.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and team members in both written and verbal forms.
  • Capability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of accuracy in transactions.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

This position typically involves on-the-job training. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age. Relevant certifications may be required where applicable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous use of close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus.
  • Frequent communication through talking and listening.
  • Regular use of hands for reaching, touching, or handling.
  • Frequent standing or walking.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 75 lbs.

Work Environment:
