Your Role
A clinical registered dietitian serves as a vital support resource within a skilled nursing facility, providing knowledge and compassion in creating personalized nutrition strategies for residents. Their extensive understanding of dietary needs ensures that residents receive meals tailored to their unique health requirements, enhancing overall wellness and supporting recovery. By delivering nourishing, healthful meals, these dietitians significantly contribute to improving physical health and promoting healing for residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct nutrition assessments for patients within specified time frames, gathering timely and relevant data, and analyzing/interpreting it based on evidence-based practices.
- Provide comprehensive documentation summarizing the nutrition care plan in patient records, including assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and goals. The clinical dietitian will monitor progress towards these goals once implemented.
- Engage in multidisciplinary care meetings and discharge planning as appropriate, collaborating closely with other professionals such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, and social services to ensure coordinated care.
- Perform nutrition diagnoses after identifying issues and clarifying their causes in collaboration with the patient's medical team.
- Develop, implement, and/or recommend individualized nutrition intervention plans, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Review and approve therapeutic diets to ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.
- Assess and evaluate techniques that consider the diverse needs of age-specific populations, as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic factors.
- Collaborate with and supervise dining service staff to ensure accuracy in diet prescriptions and high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records of daily clinical activities as required.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new dietitians and dietetic technicians, serving as a mentor to dietetic students and interns by planning educational experiences and evaluating their performance.
