Job Summary

The Inpatient Staff Pharmacist is a critical member of the Augusta Health team, responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications in our inpatient pharmacy. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmacology, medication therapy, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Medication Management: Evaluate, prepare, and dispense medications in accordance with professional standards, facility procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise pharmacy technicians, technician trainees, and pharmacist interns, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and direct workflow, checking technician work for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
  • Controlled Substances: Oversee the distribution and handling of controlled substances, maintaining accurate records and resolving medication discrepancies.
  • Pharmacy Automation: Assist in the maintenance and optimization of pharmacy automation and software technologies.
  • Medication Therapy: Review medication orders for completeness, accuracy, and legality, identifying potential medication therapy problems.
  • Patient Education: Provide reliable drug information to healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers.
  • Training and Development: Engage in the training of pharmacy students through IPPE and APPE activities.
  • Performance Improvement: Participate in the monitoring, prevention, and reporting of adverse drug events, medication errors, and performance improvement activities.
Requirements
  • Licensure: Licensed as a Pharmacist by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Skills: Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
