Electric Vehicle Recovery Specialist
Position Overview
This role is essential for ensuring prompt arrival and recovery from incidents on the roadway while delivering professional and courteous support to drivers in need.
Compensation: $20 to $23 per hour

Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to motorists with disabled vehicles and offer traffic management and other necessary support during vehicle collisions.
- Monitor the roadway network and assist stranded drivers by performing quick repairs such as tire changes, fuel delivery, and jump-starting vehicles.
- Deliver towing services for inoperable vehicles within the roadway network.
- Support at vehicle collision sites by stabilizing the scene and directing vehicles to designated locations.
- Possess a strong understanding of Freeway Service Patrol protocols and operations in the region.
- Effectively communicate with motorists, emergency responders, and Traffic Operators during incidents.
- Establish safe Maintenance of Traffic (M.O.T) control by setting up and removing traffic control devices, including cones, message boards, and temporary signage.
- Document, maintain, and archive all incident reports, logs, and observations.
- Act as the Initial Incident Commander during all roadway emergencies.
- Coordinate with the Project Engineer, Electrician, or Maintenance Technicians regarding any traffic-related maintenance tasks.
- Adhere to all established procedures related to the responsibilities of Tow Truck Operators and Tunnel Operators.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to safely remove vehicles from the roadway while effectively communicating with Tunnel Operators, Incident Response Teams, Highway Patrol, and other agencies.
- Proficient in documenting actions taken during incidents.
- Familiarity with Freeway Service Patrol and/or AAA protocols, tow truck operations, and incident management.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Comprehension of instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Capability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must pass a background check and complete an approved training course.
- Experience driving a flatbed tow truck and responding to incident scenes.
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record (Required).
- 3-5 years of experience in tow truck operations, preferably with Freeway Service Patrol.
- Knowledge and experience operating a flatbed tow truck in response to roadway incidents.
- CDL, DOT certifications, and Freeway Service Patrol experience are preferred.
- Completion of an approved tow truck training course and ongoing education is required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude, courteous and professional demeanor with customers, and a friendly attitude.
- Document actions and observations during incident response and recovery.
- Willingness to be trained as a Tunnel Operator.
- Current certification in Tow Truck Light Duty Level I and/or II is highly desirable.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance.
- Utilization of manual and powered tools and equipment.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, high places, and airborne particles.
- Possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Noise levels in the work environment may be moderate to high on roadways.
- Practice safe work methods to maintain an accident-free environment.
- Recognize hazards associated with routine and non-routine tasks and make necessary adjustments to prevent accidents.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the job will be required.
