Key Responsibilities:
As a Cost Control Specialist, your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting thorough cost assessments and responding to estimate inquiries from clients.
  • Preparing necessary documentation for the project team.
  • Managing document control processes efficiently.
  • Analyzing current cost data to generate benchmark information.
  • Assisting in the preparation of weekly reports for clients.
  • Engaging in cost negotiations with contractors.
  • Creating cost estimates based on architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Contributing to value engineering discussions.
  • Estimating and negotiating change orders throughout the construction process.
  • Providing comprehensive cost planning, including the creation and presentation of final cost plans.
  • Collaborating with the design services team and general contractor to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Reconciling changes and ensuring the accuracy of data provided by the general contractor.
  • Communicating with project stakeholders to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Preparing written feedback on submissions from the general contractor, including executive summaries.
  • Coordinating all sources of cost information for discussions with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Driving engineering priorities based on cost implications.
  • Proactively addressing scheduling challenges with minimal oversight.
  • Managing cost evaluations and conducting valuations on larger projects.
  • Participating in post-contract cost variance assessments and change control processes.
  • Overseeing cost impact management and tracking commitment logs.
  • Preparing funding presentations and coordinating value engineering sessions with stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities:
In addition to the core responsibilities, you may also be involved in:

  • Pre-Contract: Developing cost plans and estimates during the design phase, providing updated cost plans at key milestones.
  • Offering commercial insights to design and contributing to value engineering initiatives.
  • Reviewing pricing from contractors and subcontractors, leading negotiations to secure fair contract prices.

Post-Contract:
Executing quantity surveying, cost control, and change management tasks throughout the project lifecycle. Ensuring effective management of post-contract cost variances and change control processes. Conducting cost auditing and valuation work, establishing a robust validation process.

Additionally, you will be responsible for producing monthly cost reports for client presentations and ensuring timely negotiation and agreement of final accounts. Compiling as-built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes will also be part of your role.
