Job Title

Senior Building Engineer


Job Summary

Monitor and maintain utility equipment and systems at a world-class biopharmaceutical manufacturing site, utilizing automation controls, alarm systems, rounds, and local controls.


Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the Building Management System (BMS) to control utilities equipment and systems, including steam, water purification, refrigeration, wastewater, compressed air/gas systems, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Interface with Manufacturing, Engineering, and client organizations to minimize manufacturing impact and ensure equipment availability.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical failures.
  • Ensure all systems, including boilers, clean steam generators, water for injection stills, reverse osmosis units, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and wastewater flows, function correctly.
  • Respond to mechanical and electrical problems, troubleshoot, and repair.
  • Document problems and communicate through work order systems, electronic mail, and voice systems.
  • Perform inspections on utility systems and associated equipment.
  • Work with other trade skill sets to complete work orders to trade standards and customer expectations.
  • Knowledge of air compressors, air dryers, reverse osmosis units, water distilling units, clean steam generators, and ability to troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance in a GMP environment.
  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools.
  • Support Maintenance Planner as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, including monitoring Jr. Technicians to ensure company policies and client SOPs are followed correctly.

Non-Essential Functions
  • Initiate the purchase of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies in accordance with company procedures and provide technical assistance when required.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics.

Qualifications

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.


Education: Have completed an apprentice program and/or graduated from a certified trade school.


Experience:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, internally and externally with clients.
  • Experience with boilers and their associated steam delivery systems along with automation controls that support them.
  • Have worked in the trade skill set applying for a minimum of ten years.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of basic PC skills along with common applications associated with interoffice communication.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotational shifts, including days, evenings, and nights, as well as overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.

Physical Demands
  • Expected to be on feet for 8 to 10 hours a day.
  • May climb upwards of 6 flights of stairs a day to maneuver within the manufacturing facility.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs may be required.
  • Candidates must be available to work an alternative work shift, 12-hour shift. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb to perform job functions as needed.

Work Environment
  • May work with hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Environment requires gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves, and steel toe boots.
