About the Position

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is seeking a highly skilled Air Quality Engineer I/II to join our Engineering Division. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the air quality in the Bay Area meets the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reviews and evaluates permit applications, including calculating emission rates and permit fees, determining compliance or non-compliance with air quality regulations, and defining permit conditions.
  • Participates in calculating, reviewing, and correcting the emissions inventory, evaluating accuracy of source emission calculations and methodologies.
  • Responds to industry, public, and District inquiries regarding regulation interpretation, permit preparation, and various compliance measures.
  • Develops and recommends revisions to District procedures and regulations.
  • Conducts on-site compliance inspections of sources and abatement devices, evaluates compliance, and recommends enforcement actions.
  • Uses a computer terminal and various software and programs to make engineering calculations, enter and retrieve data, and monitor and correct data entry.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, or petroleum engineering or a closely related field.
  • Two years of experience in mechanical, industrial, chemical, petroleum, or related process engineering, with a focus on air quality and environmental engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders, including industry representatives, community members, and District staff.
