Job Summary

The Family Centered Maternity Care Nurse (FCMC) Registered Nurse plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and leadership in the obstetrical unit. This professional nurse assesses patient health problems and resources, develops and implements individualized care plans, and provides technical nursing interventions to designated patient populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient health problems and resources, taking a leadership role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing plan of care.
  • Provide technical nursing care and interventions to designated patient populations, including labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum stages.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless care transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Support the SRMC model and actively participate in fulfilling the Mission of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.
Requirements
  • Perinatal RN Residency or recent experience in a perinatal setting is preferred.
  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
  • New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Department-specific competency validation.
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
  • Current AWHONN Intermediate Instructor-led EFM course at time of hire for experienced RNs or within 6 months of hire for new graduate nurses and maintain AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM course certification thereafter.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret medical terminology and possess an understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
  • English required, bilingual (English/Spanish; English/French) preferred.
  • Nonsmokers preferred; or ability to work extended shifts without smoking including during lunches and breaks.
  • One-year recent experience preferred for L&D and/or Surgery/PACU.
  • Current Louisiana RN License.
  • Current BLS Card.
  • NRP Certification within 12 months of employment.
  • ACLS within 12 months of employment.
  • Newborn Assessment within one year of employment.
