Job Title: Senior Transmission Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Transmission Engineer to lead the design of complex transmission line projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leading technical design staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead transmission design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion
  • Perform and oversee PLS-CADD modeling, line routing, structure analysis, and sag-tension calculations
  • Develop design criteria, wire selection, and structure spotting
  • Lead development of specifications for construction, hardware, and material for high voltage overhead transmission lines
  • Lead development of construction drawings and cost estimates for high and extra high voltage overhead transmission lines
  • Lead calculations for required electrical clearances based on NESC or GO 95 or other applicable codes and resources
  • Communicate interpretation and application of necessary NERC, FERC, and regional requirements and standards
  • Review transmission equipment vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines
  • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning
  • Manage change orders and ensure effective execution of work
  • Apply expert knowledge of transmission concepts, practices, codes, and procedures
  • Lead quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications
  • Build effective relationships with clients, customers, and contractors
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits
  • Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates
  • Report project performance
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the transmission engineering practice
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
  • Ensure QA/QC process adherence
  • Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines
  • Comply with company and site safety policies
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Or Bachelor of Science in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering a plus
  • 7 years transmission engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred
  • Proficiency in standard civil/structural engineering techniques and procedures
  • Expert knowledge and proficiency in utilizing Design software and tools including Bentley Power Line system based programs
  • Proficiency in industry codes and standards, including NESC, GO95, ASCE 74, ASCE 48-1, or ASCE 10-97
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with leading discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members
  • Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment
