Job Title: Gas Operator I

Job Summary:

The Gas Operator I is a critical role within our team, responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to place utilities to new and existing residential homes, multifamily, and commercial units. This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maneuver heavy equipment, including trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, trenchers, backhoes, and loaders.
  • Inspect equipment and structures to identify errors or defects.
  • Use relevant information and judgment to determine compliance with laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Communicate abnormal working conditions to appropriate parties.
  • Perform mid-level laborer functions, including hand digging, setting up traffic control, and operating entry-level equipment.
  • Proficient in utility print and map reading.
  • Has performed at least 6 months of independent operating of various equipment, including directional drills and mini excavators.
  • Meets company and customer specifications for all trench or backhoe jobs.
  • Exposes underground utilities manually.
  • Conducts post-job quality checks.
  • Cleans and inspects equipment to ensure optimal safety and performance.
Requirements:
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift.
  • Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team with co-workers.
  • Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy.
  • English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports.
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional skills.
Experience and Education:
  • One (1+) plus years of experience in backhoe/mini excavator operation is required.
  • One (1+) plus years of experience digging and working around underground utilities is required.
  • Two (2+) plus years of demonstrated experience in dry utilities preferred.
  • Class A CDL Required.
  • Experience reading basic prints and Underground Facility Location Sketch is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
Additional Requirements:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
