POSITION TITLE: Aquatics Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Designated Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, hourly

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for managing all facets of aquatic activities, which includes the training and oversight of lifeguards, coordination of swimming lessons, and the overall aquatic programming for the branch during the summer months. This role, under the guidance of the Associate Executive Director, plays a vital part in supporting the mission of the YMCA. The Aquatics Coordinator will handle all responsibilities associated with the Aquatics Department, with a keen focus on enhancing member experiences, ensuring safety, participant recruitment, retention, and delivering exceptional customer service. All personnel are expected to embody the philosophy, mission, and objectives of the YMCA and its youth development initiatives, working collaboratively with colleagues to fulfill the organization's goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not an exhaustive list):

  • Effectively manage staffing, programming, and resources for the summer aquatic season.
  • Guarantee the provision of high-quality swimming instruction.
  • Enhance retention rates of swim lesson participants.
  • Strive to improve membership retention.
  • Recruit, train, and lead aquatics personnel, including lifeguards, swim instructors, and pool attendants.
  • Collaborate with the Property Director to ensure all pool operations comply with health department regulations and YMCA operational standards.
  • Ensure that all aquatic facilities are maintained to the highest cleanliness standards.
  • Communicate with branch and association leadership to keep members informed about available programs and opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of an annual promotional strategy for all aquatic programs, including marketing materials and online content.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of pool events with branch staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain accuracy and timeliness in all assignments and deadlines.
  • Oversee all communications from the Aquatics team to the branch.
  • Support the association's team of aquatics directors in creating annual training initiatives to ensure the recruitment and quality of lifeguards and swim instructors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in Aquatics Programming.
  • Experience in sports programming, managing multiple locations, and supervising staff.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid/Lifeguard Certification.
  • Experience in supervising volunteers or staff.
  • Understanding of aquatics programming and safety protocols.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS).
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certified Pool Operator.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Current O2 and Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
  • Experience in teaching swimming lessons.
