Job Overview:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee music-related initiatives and promote youth involvement in songwriting, music arrangement, and recording/production activities.
  • Teach the technical components of music production and sound engineering, integrating vocal performance and instrumental skills.
  • Organize and facilitate live performances, such as concerts.
  • Develop instructional plans and guide youth in maintaining the music studio's overall condition and functionality.
  • Instruct youth on the preparation, operation, storage, and maintenance of music recording equipment.
  • Employ verbal and non-verbal intervention strategies when necessary.
  • Uphold department policies and regulations.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff and agency training sessions.
  • Ensure that staff are effectively positioned to support all classes and activities.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of teaching experience, including at least one year working with at-risk youth.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

MANDATORY: A valid Teacher Certification from the Arizona Department of Education appropriate for the subject area (MUSIC K-12) is required. Valid Emergency Teacher, Adult Education, and Substitute Teaching Certifications may also be acceptable based on specific teaching assignments.

If driving is an essential function of this position, candidates must possess a current, valid driver's license appropriate for the class of vehicle operated, complete all required training, and pass necessary driver's license record checks. All newly hired state employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). Employment is contingent upon passing a comprehensive background investigation, drug test, and physical examination.

This position is part of the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP), which includes a Defined Contribution, 401(a) retirement plan.
