Phlebotomy Specialist

As a Phlebotomy Specialist at Advocate Aurora Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient collection of blood and other specimens from patients. This is a part-time position working 3rd shift hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. with rotating weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Verify patient identification to ensure safety and accuracy.
Assess patient reactions to specimen procurement and provide medical assistance when necessary.
Collect blood and other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol.
Ensure proper labeling and suitability of specimens for testing.
Resolve specimen identification and requisition problems and clarify requests.
Answer and screen telephone calls and assist with inventory and supplies.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
1 year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
Basic computer skills and keyboarding and typing skills required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radioactive, and infectious agents.
Will be exposed to human blood and body fluids.
