Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Transport

Inova Health System is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team in Arlington, Virginia.

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist Transport will administer advanced respiratory care therapeutics and diagnostic services with a high level of skill and proficiency in the setting of critical care transport. This individual will integrate knowledge, skills, and experience to promote optimum patient care, assuming responsibility for self-development through continuing education pathways.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and refine ventilator care plans, communicating with patient care teams to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Assess, plan, and implement, evaluate, and direct care for neonatal, pediatric, and adult transport patients, validating the quality of results with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Formulate a respiratory care plan for all transport patients based on patient diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiological profiles, integrating respiratory care plans into patients' complete care plans.
  • Establish and recommend therapeutic interventions with high proficiency and minimal supervision, demonstrating effective communication skills and seeking opportunities to improve communication and relationships with Transport team members, patients, and families.
  • Administer basic and advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions, including Heliox, Nitric Oxide, CNB Chest Wall Oscillation, and others, with high proficiency and minimal supervision, establishing and managing basic/complex forms of mechanical ventilation with high proficiency and minimal supervision.
  • Utilize standards, guidelines, protocols, and pathways for optimal care delivery, incorporating data and information to continually improve care and practice to enhance outcomes.
  • Apply departmental protocols and clinical practice guidelines with high precision and compliance, applying new techniques and procedures with high proficiency within 30 days of training/orientation, instructing staff on quality improvement (QI) processes, and meeting Clinical Ladder criteria by participating in required elective pathways.
  • Support Rapid Responses, MSETS, Full Trauma Activations, and intra-hospital transport functions when not actively involved in transport, serving as a resource to other Respiratory therapists.
  • Record data for QI processes within the department, taking an active role in data capturing and analysis, and participating in staff education, orientation, and student clinical time, teaching more than one in-service topic to staff each year, and developing and refining individual techniques.
  • Document care provided with a high degree of accuracy in more than 95% of patients cared for, communicating accurate therapeutic and patient information with healthcare team members on care plans in a manner consistent with Inova Health System's standards.
Requirements
  • Certification: Basic Life Support Upon Start, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Upon Start, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Upon Start, Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (RRT-NPS) within 12 months.
  • License: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
  • Experience: 3 years in PICU or other relevant ICU setting.
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program.
