Job Summary

As a Horizontal Construction Engineer in the U.S. Army, you will operate heavy equipment to construct and repair infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings. Your duties will include operating bulldozers, cranes, graders, and other heavy equipment to move earth and material, as well as performing maintenance and repair tasks on equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate heavy equipment to construct and repair infrastructure
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on equipment
  • Identify soil types and place grade stakes
  • Assist in performance of combat engineer missions
Requirements
  • Must have an interest in joining the Army
  • 17 to 34 years old
  • Must be able to meet height/weight requirements
  • No tattoos on hands, face, or above the neck
  • No history of a felony level offense
  • No major medical procedures that would prohibit you from service
Training and Education

Job training for Horizontal Construction Engineer requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field with on-the-job instructions.
