POSITION SUMMARY
The Curatorial Research Specialist plays a vital role within the curatorial team, providing essential research and organizational support for collection management and exhibition planning.

This position is integral to conducting object research, historical analysis, and cataloging within the museum's collections, as well as contributing to various curatorial projects, including exhibitions and acquisitions.

Under the guidance of the Curatorial department, the specialist will collaborate with museum staff and work independently on key curatorial tasks.

The role requires advanced research skills and writing proficiency to create informative texts about collection items, which may be utilized for object files, educational materials, publications, and gallery interpretations.

Additionally, the specialist will document all findings using The Museum System (TMS) and provide administrative support, including the preparation of forms, documents, and project budgets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive research for exhibitions, curatorial projects, and publications related to the museum's collections.
  • Exercise independent judgment while performing archival research both online and in-person at various repositories.
  • Utilize expertise in art history to conduct thorough object research, including cultural context, materials, and provenance.
  • Compile and expand artist and object information for research files, including biographical details and publication records.
  • Manage data entry and maintain standards within The Museum System (TMS).
  • Act as a liaison between the museum and external researchers, artists, and scholars.
  • Draft informative texts for various purposes, including the museum's website and educational resources.
  • Organize research files to support curatorial recommendations.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborative sessions with advisory committees.
  • Assist in the logistical and administrative aspects of exhibition development.
  • Support catalogue research and curatorial planning initiatives.
  • Engage with technical teams to ensure the successful realization of curatorial projects.
  • May involve travel for specific research projects.
